New research published in the British medical journal The Lancet yesterday, claims that women who use a certain type of HRT are twice as likely to develop breast cancer as those who do not use any form of HRT.

The IFPA strongly advises women taking Hormonal Replacement Therapy not to panic in response to these findings.

"Women should speak with their doctor before making any decision to abandon the treatment. It is important to weigh up the benefits with the risks and to make an informed decision based on their individual circumstances," said a spokesperson for the organisation.
