The Irish Family Planning Association welcomes the Government’s firm commitment to implement the judgment of the ABC v Ireland case in its National Report on Ireland’s domestic human rights record, which was published today (04.07.11).
The Government report to the United Nations, which is part of the Universal Periodic Review process, states that “Ireland is committed to ensuring that the judgment in this case is implemented expeditiously”.
IFPA Chief Executive Niall Behan said: “The IFPA welcomes the Government’s commitment to a prompt implementation of the judgment. This undertaking to the United Nations needs to be followed up by the immediate publication of the terms, references and time frame of the expert group proposed by the Government, which is to be tasked with making recommendations on how to address the judgment.”
