Today the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) joins a delegation of Irish NGOs to deliver a joint statement to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva. The statement is to be delivered ahead of Ireland’s review by the CEDAW Committee on Wednesday, 15th February.

The joint statement will outline how Ireland’s abortion laws violate the human rights of women and girls and how the denial of abortion constitutes discrimination against women.

The IFPA will ask the CEDAW Committee to call on the Government to act swiftly to change Ireland’s abortion laws by repealing the Eighth Amendment, and introducing legislation and regulation that respects women’s human rights, health and autonomy.
