Post-Abortion Check Up

A post abortion medical check up is recommended 2-3 weeks after an abortion. This is to make sure you have recovered both physically and emotionally after the procedure and are not worried about anything.

Staff at the IFPA have lots of experience in post-abortion care and will treat all clients with in a supportive and non-judgmental way.

A free post abortion check up can be arranged through IFPA Pregnancy Counselling Service or through our Medical Clinics. This service is available regardless of whether you have attended IFPA medical or counselling services in the past.

What’s involved: A post-abortion check-up usually takes about 20 minutes. The check up will involve:

• Blood-pressure check.
• Pelvic examination.
• Pregnancy test to confirm that the pregnancy has ended (pregnancy tests can show a positive result for a while after an abortion).
• Check of your bleeding pattern to ensure it is normal and there is no infection.
• Assistance with your contraceptive needs.
• Arrange counselling if necessary.

 
Cost: Free. This service is paid for by the State and available to all women regardless of whether you have attended IFPA medical or counselling services in the past. A free post abortion medical check up can be arranged through IFPA’s Pregnancy Counselling Service or through our two medical clinics.
